Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum and Colby Landrum consistently described a brilliant, cone-shaped burst of fire emerging beneath the hovering object, with the object appearing to sink slightly when the flame diminished and rise again when another burst occurred. However, the appearance of a flame-like discharge cannot, by itself, establish how the object was propelled or even whether the visible fire represented propulsion at all. During the August 1981 Bergstrom Air Force Base interview, Betty Cash accepted a sketch showing a diamond-shaped object but expressed uncertainty about the precise source of the flames. Why the motion does not settle the question

What investigators can reasonably conclude
The reported fiery plume remains one of the strongest descriptive elements of the Cash–Landrum narrative because it appears consistently across the principal witness accounts.
